Apple is planning to start manufacturing iPhone 12 in India for both the Indian market and for export too. As per a report from Business Standard, the iPhone 12 will be manufactured at Foxconn’s plant situated in Tamil Nadu. Foxconn is a Taiwanese manufacturer. The plant already manufactures iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. Analyst suggests that Apple is planning to shift about 7-10% of its production capacity from China. With the Indian Government’s PLI(Production-Linked Incentive) scheme, Apple has partnered with Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron for production in India. The production of the iPhone SE at Wistron’s facility near Bengaluru was halted after violence by staff due to some issues with payment. Analyst told Business Standard that the plant was also going to manufacture iPhone 12 mini but it is yet to be decided. The report also added that the Pegatron’s manufacturing unit is likely to be functional in the middle of 2021. Apple’s CEO is very positive and excited about the company’s future in the Indian market, Indian Express reported. “This is particularly the case in some of the emerging markets where we’re proud of how we’ve done…If you take India for example, we doubled our business last quarter compared to a year ago but our absolute level of business there is still quite low relative to the size of the opportunity,” Cook told analysts during a post-earnings call.
